Kia Ora Families and Whanau

Brrr….I hope you are all coping with these cold temperatures!! To those of you who have taken a break, I hope you are feeling refreshed. We look forward to seeing you all back for Term 3. Please read on for details of events planned for this term. We have rescheduled the Lantern Festival - lovely to have received this request from several families. :) Also please get your calendars out to note down other event dates.

PS: Please note - as required by the Ministry of Education, we practised our Lockdown Procedure with the children on Friday. Just like our fire and earthquake drills, hopefully we will never have to enact these for real. Please read the Lockdown Procedure attached with this newsletter, especially your role as parents, so we will all keep safe in the unlikely event of this happening. Thank you.

Lantern Festival - Friday 31 July!

The children are always excited about this event on our KidzWay calendar. This year we plan to hold the Lantern Festival on Friday 31 July at Church on the Way, Sussex St Tapanui, starting at 5:30pm. This is a lovely family event celebrating “Jesus, Light of the World” and Matariki. We start with a simple meal, a song or two and then the story of “Martin the Cobbler” is told in the dark lantern-lit church. We finish the evening with a walk around the block, holding our lanterns shining out into the darkness! If your child does not have a lantern, please come into the Centre to make one ASAP before the event - full instructions and help are available. Also see KidzWay’s entrance hallway for more details. Please bring a gold coin donation for tea - thank you.

PS This event is for KidzWay-aged children. You are welcome to bring older siblings along, providing they respect the younger children and the guidelines for the evening.

PJ/Movie Days

This is a popular “just for fun” annual event, where we can all come to KidzWay in our PJs and eat another hearty breakfast!

When: Tuesday 11, Wednesday 12 and Thursday 13 August. Please bring along your child’s NAMED sleeping bag and soft toy for them to snuggle down with while watching a movie, plus day-clothes should they wish to get changed later in the day. Also, if you have any short child-appropriate movies, please bring them along too.

Wig Wednesday/Wacky Hair Days!

This year we will run this event over 2 days:

Wednesday 9 (Wig Wednesday) and Thursday 10 September.

Please send your child along with a wacky hair-do or wig on any of these days. If you run out of time in the morning, one of our talented staff hairdressers will whip something up for your child. Gold coin donation towards the Child Cancer Foundation - thank you.

2020 Parenting Tool Box Course

Fantastic! Three families have indicated that they are keen to attend this year’s Parenting Course. The dates we are proposing are Tuesday nights from 7:30pm-9:00pm; starting 6 October. Please confirm your attendance on the form in the foyer. You’ll appreciate all the valuable tips to help you in your very important parenting job.

Recommended fees are $110 per couple or $75 per single - don’t let cost be a hindrance to your attendance as subsidies are available. Alison and Michelle look forward to bringing this helpful course to you.

Friendly Reminders

Escaping Cutlery!!

Please check your kitchen drawers for KidzWay teaspoons and forks. They disappear in children’s lunch boxes. Or if you happen to have any spare, we would love to take them off your hands. Thanks.

Family Photos

We would love to see approximately another 30 photos up on our Centre family tree. Please email through to Kath. Your children love seeing their family on the wall. :)

Change of Clothes

Please remember to pack a spare change of clothes in your child’s bag in case their clothes become wet during the day.

Thank You…

Patrick Sloane - for photographing our Ronald MacDonald Fashion Extravaganza.

Bruce and Tanya Eade - for supplying straw for our chickens.

Maree Lapthorne - for her input into the life of KidzWay as a teacher and relief teacher. We wish her and her family well in their new home in Cromwell.

Dates for your Calendar:
