“Teach a child how to choose the right path. When he is older, he will still be on it.”
Kia Ora Families and Whanau
The year is flying!! I’m sure I don’t need to tell you that. Our recent AGM celebrated the year that was, and certainly show-cased a lot of details and events that have filled the year. It was a lovely time for staff and Trust to connect together; however we did miss having parents present to share this information with! Do keep an eye out for the Trust’s overview, out shortly.
As our year draws to an end, please note the dates and events listed at the end of this newsletter.
Coming up at the start of Term Four, we will be running the preschool version of “Keeping Ourselves Safe” in the KidzWay Kiwis (Four-Year-Olds) programme. Please read over what will be taught (attached to your newsletter), and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
The children no doubt have been telling you about their learning on sustainability! The presentation from Laura Gourley from the Clutha District Council was captivating. Be sure to check out the posters in the foyer. Remember, “Keep it in until you get to the bin.”

Term Four Ngahere Explorers
Ngahere Explorers will take place on Thursdays next term, starting on Thursday 17 October. We will be holding a short meeting for parents of Thursday four-year-olds who are new to Ngahere Explorers, at 9:00am on Thursday 10 October. At this meeting we will outline the details of the programme and the part you will be playing in it.
Pet Day – Thursday 7 November
This is an annual event which the children really enjoy! Please be here with your children’s pets by 9:30am (the event usually runs until 11:00am). If you are bringing a dog, please ensure it has a lead and can be tied up, and that it has been wormed and dosed for hydatids at least 2 days before the day. A Prattley pen will be available to contain lambs, and the fence-line provides space for any other animals that may need to be tied up. We are all looking forward to seeing the pets and soft toys (if you don’t have a pet). There will also be a Grand Parade, Big Dig and shared morning tea. Please bring a plate to share – thank you.
Please note: There will be no Ngahere Explorers on the morning of the Pet Day.
Healthy Heart Award
A couple of weeks ago our application for the Rito/Bronze Healthy Heart Award was
accepted. We will be awarded this in the new term. The Healthy Heart Award acknowledges
KidzWay’s commitment to healthy eating and physical activity. For ideas on healthy lunches, please visit our website www.kidzway.co.nz, and scroll to “Info for Parents” or click on the A-Z Information Guide.
Term Four marks the arrival of warmer weather and an increase in UV index, and so it is time to begin our applications of sunscreen. We use “Oasis Sun” SPF30 which we have found is great for sensitive skin and has reduced the need for parents to provide their own brands of sunscreen. Kath will be adding the twice-yearly charge of $2.00 to your accounts soon to cover the cost of providing this to you.
PLEASE ensure you are sending a named sun hat along with your child each day and placing this on their hook on arrival in the mornings, then taking it home each night. This helps reduce the spread of nits and our daily washing load!!! Also please update yourself by reading the attached Sun Protection Procedure. Thanks.

- Warren Harliwich for facilitating with Custom Build Engineering to remodel and install our new gates. They are so much stronger and now unable to be swung on. Thank you also to Harliwich Contracting for releasing Warren to work on this. Your help has saved the Centre money, which can be now used for the children.
- Parents who return surveys – your feedback is appreciated and valued. Thanks for taking the time to fill out these forms and enable us to be affirmed and improve our practices.
- Winterbourne Family for donating a load of firewood for us to auction as a fundraiser towards buying our new paint easel. We trust the Wallace family will be kept nice and warm - thanks for winning the bid.
- Paper4trees Recycling Programme and their sponsors The Sargood Bequest, for providing us with free native plants to beautify our outdoor environment as a result of our recycling efforts.
- Keith McKenzie for making the new bike ramps, which are a huge hit with the children.
