Kia Ora Whānau and Families

I hope the school holidays were a fun and refreshing time for you and your families. It was quieter here at KidzWay, which meant we could go on spontaneous walks and have some great one-on-one time with the children.

In responding to the children's interests, we have moved our focus from pets to Spring; calves and lambs and growing plants. Through this we will also incorporate social and emotional regulation, social language, empathy and caring, and our value of resilience. With guidance and help, children will experience the Te Whāriki Learning Outcome “treating others fairly and including them in play”. Please, if you have any thoughts/ideas on how we can extend this, feel free to share with the teachers.

We have also started preparing for the Christmas Concert … watch this space!!

Ngahere Explorers

It's great to have had one morning back at Ngahere Explorers for Term 4. We are back in the forest areas near the Tapanui cemetery. Ernslaw One are allowing us back into the “Gruffalo” forest, just on the pine needled area, where we are amongst the oldest radiata pine trees in NZ which were planted in 1905.

Pet Day – Wednesday 10 November

This is an annual event which the children really enjoy! Please be here with your children’s pets by 9:30am (the event usually runs until 11:00am). If you are bringing a dog, please ensure it has a lead and can be tied up, and that it has been wormed and dosed for hydatids at least 2 days before the day. A Prattley pen will be available to contain lambs, and the fence-line provides space for any other animals that may need to be tied up. We are all looking forward to seeing the pets and soft toys (if you don’t have a pet). There will also be a Grand Parade and Big Dig. Under Covid Level 2, KidzWay will be providing the morning tea. Please can you bring $2 to support our costs and let us know how many in your family will be attending – thank you.

Donations to the SPCA

To finish our focus on cats, dogs and caring for others, we thought a kind gesture would be to donate cat or dog food to the local SPCA. If you wish to donate one item of food, the box is in the foyer. Thank you!

Staffing at KidzWay

  • Please keep the word out that KidzWay is “still” looking for a cleaner. Approximately 2 hours per night; ring or call into the Centre for a job description.

  • We are pleased to be welcoming Manja Hellewell as our new Administrator; she officially starts on Monday 1st November. Kath will still be here as she eases Manja into the role.

Friendly Reminders :)

  • Term 4 is here now, so please remember to send your child with a named wide brimmed hat (6 cm wide) to protect those delicate ears and necks.

  • Also if you have any other specific sun protection needs that are different to what we stated in our sun protection procedure emailed out to you recently, do email or let Denise know.

  • Please remember water should be the only thing in your child's drink bottles; we have noticed clear juice slipping in.

We know currently Covid is not in the South Island, but with this variant, things can change quite quickly. Please use the “One-way loop system” and remind others who drop off or pick up your child to do this too. Thanks for continuing to use the QR code/sign in sheet as you enter.

Thank You…

  • To the teachers, Robbie, Sarah and Gavin who continue to shoulder the load of cleaning KidzWay each night.

  • To the parents and community for your support and generosity at last week's quiz night - we made $1296.10.

  • To families for your support of the Child Cancer Foundation’s Wig Wednesday - we raised $117.
